Perry Wesley "Wes" Gwin Jr's Obituary
Perry Wesley “Wes” Gwin Jr., 62, of Boaz, Alabama, passed away at his home on June 13, 2026. He was born on September 12, 1963.
Wes was a graduate of The University of Alabama, where he earned bachelor's degrees in Mathematics, Political Science, and History. He was also a member of Phi Kappa Sigma. Known by many as a “professional student,” Wes had a lifelong passion for learning and was continually pursuing new knowledge and interests.
During the 1990s, Wes served in the United States Marine Corps as part of the Advance Party for Kilo Battery 4/14, 4th Marine Division, and subsequently continued his service in the Marine Corps Reserves. He later worked as a teacher and substitute teacher in Georgia and Alabama. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and attended Meadowbrook Baptist Church.
Wes enjoyed studying genealogy and American history, was an avid Alabama football fan, and had a special affection for dogs. His intellectual curiosity and dedication to learning remained defining characteristics throughout his life.
He is survived by his brother, Matthew C. Gwin (Olivia); his nephew, M. Cade Gwin (Alexis); his great-nephew, Houston Cade Gwin; his uncle, Ed Wright; his aunt, Marilyn Butler (Ben); his longtime friend and fellow Marine, Robby Hill; his beloved dogs, Buddy and Charlie; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends on both the Gwin and Benford sides of the family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Perry W. Gwin Sr. (Linda); his mother, Judith Myracle; his aunt, Marcia Wright; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Services with military honors at Alabama National Cemetery will be announced at a later date.
The family extends special thanks to his dear friends, Robby Hill and Janet Hill, for their support and kindness.
