I got to know June through the Johnson twins one summer nearly 30 years ago and we remained friends. I always looked forward to my Alabama visits and even she recorded with me and David. Last we spoke was back in October and she shared a recording with me from her childhood playing with her family gospel band. We were at a party one time in high school and people were singing. June was in the group of people I was with also, and when I said the singing was pretty good, June replied āThis isnāt singing, if you want to hear singing, come the rec center (the old one) and gave me a date. Well, I went and Lord it was a singinā! I think the title of the Singinā was Momma Tompkins Sings! It was very enjoyable. We all have our ups and downs in our walk, and I am happy to have know June in mine. Godās speed June, you are going home. š
