Vera Kirk's Obituary
Mrs. Vera Kirk passed away peacefully at her home with family on May 12, 2026. She was born in 1928 and raised in the Vigo community and attended Greenwood School. She loved fishing, canning, quilting, word search puzzles, and she really loved pro wrestling, but most of all she loved her family with all her heart. She will be missed by many.
Vera was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill Kirk; a daughter, Fredia Pogue; a granddaughter, Christy Pogue; a grandson, Michael Reynolds; five brothers, Clyde Buttram, Lee Buttram, J.W. Buttram, Morris Buttram, and Charles Buttram; two sisters, Alma Gillen, and Sally Holbrooks; and her parents, John W. and Claudia Buttram.
Left to cherish her memory are her survivors: her four daughters, Ann Ogle, Debra Palmer, Jennifer Smart, and Lynn Kirk; one son, Eddie Don "Pete" Shell; one brother, Frankie Buttram; along with nine grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren (and one on the way). Survivors also include several nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.
A celebration of life to honor the life of Vera will be held Tuesday, May 19 from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at Philadelphia Baptist Church, where she was a member. The service will be officiated by Jeffrey Holbrooks. The family requests that no flowers be sent. Bring your memories of her and if you would like to share some of them, you will get the opportunity to do so. She wanted no sad tears.
