Tony Ray Gravette's Obituary
Tony Ray Gravette, 62, of East Alabama, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, at Regional Medical Center.
Born on March 30, 1963, Tony lived a life marked by curiosity, conviction, and just enough mischief to keep everyone on their toes. A proud lifelong learner, he earned both his Bachelor’s degree in Finance and his Master’s degree in Secondary Education from Jacksonville State University. He went on to dedicate many years of service to JSU, where he worked faithfully until his retirement, though anyone who knew Tony understood that “retirement” simply meant he had more time to explore his latest interests.
Since 1989, Tony shared life with his beloved wife, Angela Gravette. For nearly four decades, theirs was a partnership built on loyalty, laughter, and spirited debate. He was endlessly proud of his daughter, Nichole Gravette, and never missed an opportunity to brag about her. His love extended beyond titles, embracing his unofficially adopted children; Ashley Richert, Shondria Wright, Brenda Munroe, and Doug Garrett, who each held a special place in his heart.
Tony believed in principle, integrity, and standing firm in what he thought was right. He was passionate, blunt, and told it like it was, whether you were ready to hear it or not. Stoic on the surface but deeply feeling underneath, he was adventurous, curious, and always chasing the next thing to learn. If there was a new skill, gadget, or idea to explore, Tony was already researching it.
His hobbies read like a catalog of a life fully lived: fishing trips, gaming sessions, carpentry projects, writing and playing music, tinkering with technology, camping under the stars, watching UFC fights, and DJing whenever he had the chance. He had a sharp wit and a gift for jokes that often required a moment (or a few hours) to fully appreciate. If you suddenly laughed long after leaving his company, chances were you had finally gotten the joke.
Though he might not have advertised it, Tony had a soft spot for animals and a quiet tenderness that showed in small, thoughtful ways. Above all else, he was proud of and devoted to his family, loving fiercely and faithfully.
A viewing and visitation service will be held on Sunday, March 8th at 2:00 PM at the Magnolia House at Cremation Services of East Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local animal shelter or to the Wounded Warrior Project - a cause Tony would have wholeheartedly supported.
In true Tony fashion, the best way to honor his memory is simple: learn something new, help someone when you can, tell a good joke, and don’t be afraid to speak your mind.
