Timothy "Tim" Campbell's Obituary
On Friday, November 18, 2022, Timothy (Tim) Campbell, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at UAB Hospital after suffering a stroke.
Tim was born on August 9, 1941, in Gadsden, AL. Tim graduated from Emma Sansom High School in 1960
where he played the baritone in The Greatest Band of Dixie. He remained a devoted Sansom Rebel and was a member of the Half Century club. After high school, Tim joined the Marine Corps where he obtained a classified clearance and was stationed at the Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps (HQMC) in Washington D.C., and later went to the Naval Amphibious Base in Little Creek, VA, where he finished his service but considered himself a Marine all his life.
While stationed in VA, Tim met the love of his life, Rebecca (Becky) McKinney. Tim and Becky married in April 1963 and would have celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in April of 2023.
After leaving the military, Tim and Becky moved to Gadsden where Tim worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company until retirement.
In his spare time, Tim enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the Northeast Alabama Woodworking Club. He attended Alabama Technical School of Trades where he learned the trades of sheet metal working, auto repair, upholstery, and brick masonry. All of which he used throughout the rest of his life. He also earned the title of Master Gardener through the local chapter of the Etowah County Master Gardeners.
To know Tim was to love him. He lived life to the fullest. He adored his family and loved his "Bro";. You could always count on lots of laughing, telling old stories, watching Alabama football, and eating good food when Tim was around! He loved life, had the loudest laugh in the room and always reminded us to “keep a happy thought”!
Tim was proceeded in death by his mother and stepfather, Helen (Brand) and Richard Parnell, his father,
Hershel Campbell, an infant sister, Margaret Ann, brother in-laws John and Clayton McKinney and Jerry
Weaver, sister in-law Peggy McKinney and niece, Helen (Crickett) Sanders (Chuck). He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rebecca (McKinney), daughters, Terri Bodiford (William Miller) and Kelly Frevel (Chris), and a son, Clay Campbell (Brandi). Six grandchildren, Taylor Bodiford, Kaitlen, Jeremy and Courtney Long and Campbell and Peyton Frevel. A brother, Don Campbell (Jeanette), nephews Brian Campbell (Jana), Cale Campbell, John McKinney (Paula), Todd Tolis and Alexis Tolis Stone. Sister-in-law, Marty Weaver and family, brother-in-law, Frank Myers, and family, chosen family, Mack and Kathie Brown, Brian and Tara Nowakowski and family, Reba (Jerry) Young, golf buddies and too many special friends to list.
The family would like to thank the Neurology Team, Critical Care team and all the nurses and patient care
technicians on the 8 th floor of the Neuro Intensive Care Unit at UAB Hospital for their care and support during his brief stay.
