Oh, Susan…my first college roomie…miss you girl more than I can say. We missed too many years because of life but I was so over the moon to visit and talk with you when we reconnected. Over the years I’ve told family and friends about you and how amazing you were and showed pictures of our adventures. They know you. You were amazing and so strong and so full of love and so funny. Laughing with you about so much of life’s happenings will always be a treasured memory. Your children meant the world to you and your grandchild and you were fiercely protective of them. You never stood for nonsense and I can still see you cutting your eyes in response to it but yet you were so forgiving. You had the biggest heart. I’ll carry you in my heart forever. These words very poorly describe how much you meant to me but I’m just heartbroken and can’t express your true impact on my life. Miss you and love you…always.

Susan was a very strong woman, she fought very hard to live as long as she could for her wonderful
Children, Katie and Spencer! She told me she didn’t know what “unconditional Love” was until she had her kids! She loved them so much and was so proud of them, and her son-in-law Vince! I observed Katie and Spencer and Vince taking care of Susan with such love and devotion for the last year, each day a different obstacle, or journey, but they were definitely determined and devoted to they’re wonderful strong Mother! They both went above and beyond to make her every wish come true till the very end! I pray for the Family that’s Gods Grace rest on their shoulders and gives them strength to carry on, and taking comfort in knowing they will see Susan again in Heaven! My prayers and thoughts are with you!

Susan Shipman Backus was born with unbridled courage and determination . A very old soul ; much wiser & stronger than one lifetime's lessons could ever bring ...
Often on her own as a child, she'd toddle the long country block between home & a local store , where friendly faces welcomed her & she began the process of learning from each person she met . she held on to the positive lessons .
Fast forward to high school , where a counselor advised ," No need for college , Susan ~ you'd be well suited as salesperson at the dimestore !" Susan left , saying later , " No . Not Me ." Of course , she finished college with a degree , being driven to help people ~ especially little ones , for starters , then much later , adult women seeking shelter from certain dangers .
All the while she welcomed most adventures far & wide & always remained the best friend a person could ask for .
But most of all , she loved her kids , Katie & Spencer ! & they loved her right back again ~ through thick & thin , even near the end .. they helped her check off her bucket list : *BEACH* *BEACH* * MOUNTAINS* and so on ..:heart:
When it was time for Susan to go , she announced it & soon lifted off , into her next big adventure .. 🪽
