Sandra Farmer MacDonald's Obituary
Sandra Farmer MacDonald, 74, Jacksonville, AL passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 in Anniston, AL. A celebration of her life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 24 at Golden Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Roland P. Brown officiating.
Sandy was born on June 22, 1946 in Washington, D.C. Her parents were Mildred Evans Farmer of Elberton, GA and Edgar Sloan Farmer of Greenville, SC. As a child she loved fishing with her dad and playing cards with family. She attended George Mason Middle and High School. Her favorite teacher described her as a precocious and intuitive child. She graduated from Falls Church Beauty School with honors and was a hair stylist and cosmetologist. Sandy worked for Vincent et Vincent in Falls Church and Mr. Lewis’ at Seven Corners, VA with an impressive client following. She finished her career teaching at Potomac Academy of Hair and Nail Design in Manassas, VA.
Sandra married James Miller, of Falls Church, VA. She enjoyed decorating her home and cooking. They had one daughter, Donna, with whom she enjoyed the duck pond on Lee Highway and pony rides at Bailey’s Crossroads. Most of all, her fun-loving spirit made everyday tasks an adventure for her family.
In 1981, Sandra married William MacDonald of Masardis, ME. They had a son, Shane, and a stepson, Matthew, and lived in Manassas, VA where Sandy raised lop-eared rabbits and chickens while her husband worked for the DOD Printing Agency in the Pentagon. Sandy cared for her mother for the last years of her life. Their home was filled with love, children and pets.
Sandy moved to Houston, TX in 1999, joining her daughter and grandson there. She loved attending her grandson’s football games and pet-sitting for friends. In 2015, Sandy moved to Jacksonville, AL to be near her daughter and son-in-law.
She had a generous and kind spirit with a love for people and animals. She never met a stranger. Being an avid reader, she could converse about most subjects. Even though she suffered from chronic illness for much of her life, Sandra fought to stay happy and bring joy to family and friends. She will be remembered for her zest for life, kindness, love, creativity, generosity and tenacity.
Sandy is survived by her daughter, Donna Miller Brittain (Gary) her son, Shane MacDonald, a stepson, Matthew MacDonald (Shayni), one grandson, Jeffrey Bret “J.B.” Shugarts, Jr. And step-grandsons, Ian Brittain (Carroll Ann) and Bradley Brittain (Amanda), cousins William D. Smith (Peggatha), Patrice Evans O’Neill and Stephen Evans.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William MacDonald and her parents, Mildred Evans Farmer and Edgar Farmer; uncles: Richard D. Evans (Hannah May) (Dorothy), Claude Farmer (Bernice), Jerome Farmer and Woodrow Farmer; aunts: Mary Evans Galloway (Dean), Clara Bell Evans Davenport (Brick), Jane Evans Smith (William), and Marjorie Evans.
