Dr. Robert Edward Ford's Obituary
Dr. Robert Edward Ford passed away on January 19th 2025 at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie, brothers William "Bill", James "Foots", and Charles "Cotton", and his parents Robert and Hazel. He is survived by his son Robert Jr. (Babette), grandson Hans (Celeste), great-grandsons Austin and Franklin, along with many friends and relatives. Dr. Ford was born in Bessemer, Alabama on July 18th 1930, and attended Bessemer High School. He studied at the University of Alabama for undergraduate and later UAB for dental school, earning his doctorate in 1960. Dr. Ford was a beloved dentist for 39 years in the Birmingham area, retiring in 1999 to care for his ailing wife. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962 and later in the National Guard, attaining the rank of full Colonel. As Commander he led his unit to numerous citations for excellence. Dr. Ford was also known as Bob, Bobby, or DF, and will be remembered for his kind manner, service to his country, and his steadfast devotion to his family. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
