Ralph Emerson "Rick" Hamm Jr's Obituary
Ralph Emerson "Rick" Hamm, Jr, 62, of Alexandria, Alabama passed away peacefully at his home November 18, 2025. The youngest of eight children, Rick was born February 11, 1963 to Ralph and Lavelle Hamm.
Rick was raised in the Alexander City and Hackneyville community, where he graduated from Hackneyville High School, class of 1981. He later graduated from the Gadsden State Paramedic Program in 1982, and worked for Suburban Ambulance Service in Birmingham, Alabama, Sylacauga Ambulance Service in Sylacauga, Alabama, St Clair Ambulance and South Med Ambulance Services in St Clair County, Alabama until 1991. Being a paramedic was a love and a life calling for Rick, and he missed it every day.
In 1991 Rick graduated with an RN degree from Sylacauga Hospital, Jacksonville State University, with a BSN and worked in the emergency department at Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga, Alabama until he graduated from Troy State University with his MSN and Nurse Practitioner degree in 2001. He was also an alumnus of the University of Alabama. ROLL TIDE!!! Rick worked as a NP in the emergency departments of Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama, Russell Medical Center in Alexander City, Alabama, Occupational Health and Emergency Medicine for Concentra in Lincoln, Alabama, and ended his 40 year career in emergency medicine at St Vincent's St Clair Emergency Department in Pell City, Alabama in August of 2021. Rick truly loved emergency medicine and making a difference in people's lives.
Rick's other love beyond his family was Yoshukai Karate where he was a black belt and a member of the Sylacauga Karate school for many years.
Rick's greatest love was his family. He loved being a husband and a father. He is survived by his wife, Tina Medders Hamm of Alexandria, Alabama, his oldest son Craig Hamm (Kelly), his oldest daughter, Jasmine Grace Brazier Hamm, his youngest daughter Brianna Nichole Hamm, and youngest son Zayden Lynn Hamm, and grandchildren Jackson and Elliot Hamm. Rick and Tina also loved and cared for many children in their home through the Foster Parent program for many years.
Rick is also survived by two brothers, Chuck Carlton and Stan Carlton; four sisters, Dianne Goodwin, Sue Brown, Carolyn Allred, and Betty Ingle; a brother-in-law, Dwight Goodwin; and a sister-in-law, Dianna Carlton. He is preceded in death by a brother, Eddie Arnold; three brothers-in-law, Buddy Brown, Cecil Allred, and Jack Ingle; and two sisters-in-law, Judy Arnold and Marilyn Carlton.
