Mary Roberta Brown Hill's Obituary
Mary Roberta Brown Hill, of Boaz, AL., affectionately known to many simply as “Granny,” passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025. Born on August 29, 1944, Roberta was a woman of resilience, strength, and fierce independence. Though she wasn’t always the typical doting grandmother, her home was always open—whether you needed a place to stay, a meal, or a simple trip fishing. She offered shelter and steadiness in her own way, and that meant everything to those who knew her.
Roberta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Truman Ray Hill Sr.; her parents, John Henry Brown and Mattie Clark Brown; her children, Billy Wayne Hill Sr., Gidgett Hill, Mary Teresa (Champ) Hill, Johnny Greg (Dinky) Hill, and Truman Ray (PeeWee) Hill Jr.; her grandson, Billy Wayne Hill Jr.; great-grandson, Mason Eli Thomas; and a host of her siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Hill, and son, Jay Moore. She leaves behind a legacy through her many grandchildren: John Tony Bearden Jr., Felicia Bearden, Shania Bunch, Kay-La Bearden, Michael Ray Hill, Truman Ray Hill III, Joseph Hill, Jessica Hill, Johnny Hill, and Tabitha Hill; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will carry on her memory.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Amedisys Hospice of Rainbow City, whose care and compassion during Roberta’s final days was nothing short of extraordinary. A special thank-you goes to Megan Doster, RN, for her attentive and loving support.
Roberta’s life was not always easy, but she stood strong through it all. She was our Granny—not just in name, but in spirit—and she will be remembered in the hearts of many.
