Mary Helen Cheatwood's Obituary
Mary Helen Cheatwood, age 74, of White Plains, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her home on June 29, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 27, 1950, in Anniston, Alabama, Mary was the daughter of Nannie Lee and Emmett Hall Jr. She graduated from White Plains High School in 1969. That same year, on January 31, she married the love of her life, Woodie Cheatwood. Together they shared 56 beautiful years of marriage and raised two daughters.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and Granna whose life was rooted in faith, family, and service. She was a gifted gardener and talented seamstress. In her early years, she was a full time mom and worked alongside Woodie on the farm. In 1983, she went to work at Jacksonville State University, for over 30 years, where she was a familiar and friendly face to many across campus. Her dedication and warmth earned her the honor of Employee of the Year during her tenure.
Mary was an active member of Rabbittown Baptist Church and a well-loved presence in the White Plains community.
Mary is preceded in death by her father, Emmett Hall Jr; brother Larry Hall; sister Brenda Hall. Mary is survived by her husband, Woodie Cheatwood; daughters Amanda (Ken) Hightower and Kristi (Colin) Cotton; grandchildren Kendall (Riley) Murphy, Eli Hightower, Andrew Miller, Maggie Miller, Ben Miller; Haley Cotton and by her great-grandchildren Marshall Murphy, McLendon Murphy, and Miller Murphy; her mother, Nannie Lee Hall; brothers Randall (Stephanie) Hall and Kelvin (Vickie) Hall; special niece Jackie (Brian) Humphries and a host of other beloved sister in laws, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Mary's legacy is one of love, kindness, humor, and unwavering faith. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Rabbittown Baptist Church or the Rabbittown Cemetery Fund (1806 Brown Bridge Rd, Piedmont, AL, 36272.)
A memorial service will be held at Rabbittown Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 1, at 6:00 p.m., with visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. prior to the service.
