Mark Dwight Eberly Jr.'s Obituary
Mark Dwight Eberly Jr., 83, of Jacksonville Alabama passed away on January 10, 2026 with his loving wife of 60 years by his side He passed away approximately around 11:30 pm after a quick and sudden decline due to a rapidly progressing dementia. There will be a celebration of life service on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the Bonny Brook Baptist Church. The family will receive family and friends between 1:00 - 1:45pm. Pastor Jesse Barksdale will be officiating.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Eberly of Jacksonville; his son, Michael of Jacksonville; his daughter, Nissa of Brooklyn, NY and his sister Anita Pearce (nee' Eberly) of Indian Rocks, Florida.
Mark is preceded in death by his father Mark Dwight Eberly Sr, his mother Jessie Hollingsworth Eberly.
Was born in Evansville, Indiana on the 26th of September 1942, to Mark Dwight Eberly Sr. a pharmacist who worked for Walgreens from the 1930s to the 1950s and beyond part time and Jessie Eberly (nee’ Hollingsworth).
He grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, Memphis, Tennessee and Treasure Island, Florida.
He met his future wife, Nancy Jane Russell, while attending White Station High School in Memphis. He then moved to Florida while maintaining his relationship with Nancy. After graduation Mark attended St. Petersburg Junior College, and later Memphis State University. While at Memphis State, Mark joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Long Beach.
Immediately after leaving the Navy in 1965, he married Nancy in Memphis, Tennessee, and later moved to Florida to be closer to his parents and sister.
In 1969 he became a father to Michael Dwayne Eberly.
In 1970 he was encouraged by a neighbor to take a job with First Federal Savings and Loan of Clearwater (which later became Fortune Federal)
1n 1972 Mark became father to Nissa Joy Eberly.
In 1975 Mark took a job as the founding President of Northwest Tennessee Savings and Loan, where he pioneered a VA Home Loan program which was unique to Northwest Tennessee Savings and Loan. It was due to this program that during a period of time when many Savings and Loans went out of business, he was able to negotiate a merger with Frontier Federal Savings and Loan in 1980.
In 1983 he moved his family to Hernando County, Florida and took a job with his former employer now named Fortune Federal. He started as a branch manager, but quickly became regional manager, until in 1991 he retired from banking to become a financial advisor.
In 1994 he took a job with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office as a Public Service Aid.
In 1996 he retired and began focusing on enjoying his primary hobby of Scuba Diving along with sailing his 24 foot boat Southern C’s.
In 2001 he and Nancy moved to Jacksonville, Alabama to enjoy the local scenery and to occupy themselves with a musical ministry playing guitar and singing at local nursing homes. He also enjoyed exploring the area with his Jeep.
Mr. Eberly enjoyed camping, hiking, hunting, riding motorcycles, sailing and Scuba Diving. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family would appreciate it if all donations would be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Parkinson Disease Association.
