Margie Hammond Frederick

Margie Hammond Frederick of Heflin, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham. Margie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Floyd Smith of Heflin; son and daughter-in-law, James Kirk and Melissa Frederick of Tallahassee, FL; and son, Brian E. Frederick of Wetumpka, AL; beloved grandchildren, Clay Smith and his wife April of Athens, AL; Brooklyn Payne and her husband Clint of Anniston, AL; Hunter and Maddi Frederick and Will and Savanah Boldt of Tallahassee; and Walker, Cooper, and Lucy Frederick of Wetumpka; great-grandchildren, Alyssa (Chase) Robinson, Trey Jacobs, Sophie and Callie Smith of Athens; and Reagan, Jack, and Charlie Payne of Anniston; great-great grandchild, Ivy Robinson of Athens. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins, whom she dearly loved. Margie was born on August 12, 1936, to Augusta Odell and Vera Morrow Hammond. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband J. Kirk Frederick of Huntsville, AL; sister Lois Hammond Green Hunter; brothers A.O. Hammond, Jr. and Donald Hammond. A people person with a huge personality, Margie spent the majority of her career in the transportation industry. She worked in public and private sectors, for the U.S. Government and several government contractors. After many years of service she retired from Northrop Grumman as manager of Transportation and Household Goods, Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL. Margie upheld an ethical and professional business standard throughout her career and was recognized for her efforts with several awards. Upon retirement, Margie returned to her hometown of Heflin to live near her daughter and son-in-law. Lovingly known to them as “Nana,” she delighted in visits from her great-grands, offering them stories, snacks, and much fun. She enjoyed antiques, shoes, a coke over ice, crab claws, the sun, lemons, family gatherings, and her weekly beauty shop appointment. Margie requested no public services be held. The family will honor her at a private memorial service. We will hold fast to the sweet memories of her life. Our sadness is made bearable by the assurance of spending eternity with her in heaven.
