Liz Edwards Coble's Obituary
Liz Edwards Coble, 87, of Huntsville, passed away on Oct. 26, 2023, after a short battle with lung cancer. With her two daughters by her side, she left this world for her eternal home in Heaven, because of her profession as Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Born in Silver Spring, Md., to loving parents, her childhood dream was to visit all 50 states in the United States, which she did more than once, especially with the love of her life, Don Coble. She met Don at a New Year’s Eve party at the end of 1956 and married him just three months later. In their 49 years of marriage, they resided in California, Maryland, Florida, New Jersey, Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi before Hurricane Katrina displaced them to their final home in Alabama. Her early adult years included jobs in the telephone and airline industries before she eventually became a full-time homemaker.
For 25 years, Liz lived in Ocean Springs, Miss., where she and Don enjoyed their house on the water, boating, fishing and hosting regular visits from family and friends, which almost always included a good shrimp or crawfish low-country boil. They were active participants in the Coast Guard Auxiliary and attended Christus Victor Lutheran Church. Two of their favorite activities were daily visits to The TatoNut Shop for doughnuts and annual trips to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, which they introduced to their extended family. Despite the distance, she greatly loved her Maryland and Pennsylvania relatives.
After the hurricane in 2005 and death of Don in 2006, she split time between Huntsville and Orlando for several years to share life with both of her daughters. She even went to work in Orlando as a greeter at Tusker House restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. In Huntsville, she was blessed to watch her two grandchildren grow up and became a faithful attendee of their many activities. Additionally, she enjoyed many good friendships from her neighborhood, weekly card games, attending church and going to the senior center. She had a genuine care for others and almost always maintained a cheerful attitude, even while overcoming breast cancer in 2010-2011. Her legacy of love (“Loveya”), as well as many fun and fond memories, will forever be in the hearts of those who loved her.
Mrs. Coble was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Coble; parents, George M. and Mildred A. Edwards; sisters, Mildred Stromberg and Freda Wright; and brother, Buddy Douglas. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Jones (Rob) and Cathrina Coble; grandchildren, Ryan Jones (Alexis) and Kathryn Jones; brother, George M. Edwards, Jr. (Kathy); sister-in-law, Judy Hinkle (George); and many nieces and nephews.
The family will conduct a private remembrance in Huntsville and then later hold a graveside service at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Ga. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Coble’s honor to A New Leash on Life (707 Andrew Jackson Way, Huntsville, AL 35802) or the charity of your choice.
