John Clyde Winn, Jr.'s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Clyde Winn, Jr., 85, of Anniston, Alabama, who went to be with the Lord on June 17, 2025.
Born on April 28, 1940, in Anniston, Alabama, John was the son of the late John Clyde Winn, Sr. and Edith Craig Winn. John led a life marked by devotion, love, and service to others, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Evelyn Winn, and their four children: Craig Winn (Sharon Wheeler Winn), Patrick Winn, Chris Winn, and Marki Mason. He was a proud and loving grandfather to his five grandchildren: Ashley Greenlee (Steven Greenlee), Joshua Winn, Lily Winn, Sylas Norred, and Tyson (granddog).
John's educational journey began at Walter Welborn High School, followed by a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from Auburn University and a Master's Degree in Psychology from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. His career spanned many years and fields, beginning as a teenager at Hall Building Material, followed by a role as a pharmacist at Wikle's Drug Store in Jacksonville, AL. John continued his work in the healthcare field as a counselor with Vocational Rehab and pharmacist at both Regional Medical Center in Anniston, AL, and Goodwin Drug in Alexandria, AL. His 30+ year career as a Medical Relations Officer and Supervisor with Social Security Disability in Birmingham, AL, was a testament to his dedication to helping those in need. He also worked as a Relief Pharmacist with Rite Aid.
A devout Christian, John was an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Anniston for over 40 years. He served as an usher, contributed to Small Christian Communities, and was a proud 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he found great joy in serving his church community.
Those who knew John best will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a man who showed immense compassion and unwavering support to his loved ones. From the moment he first met his wife Evelyn at Regional Medical Center, he fell in love with her, and that love remained steadfast for their 50 years together. John was an extraordinary provider and worker, often putting in long hours, yet always making sure to be present for his children's activities, offering his love and support with each passing day.
John was a man of deep character and integrity, one who gave freely to others without ever seeking recognition. His many acts of kindness, whether through his work, his faith, or his quiet personal sacrifices, were often known only to the recipients of his grace. He did not seek praise but earned the respect and admiration of all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In times of hardship, John was a beacon of light. He was a constant source of love and guidance to his family and friends, always offering a helping hand and a compassionate ear. His life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and dedication, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
John Clyde Winn, Jr. was truly an angel among us, and while he may be gone, his love, his spirit, and the lessons he imparted will continue to guide and inspire us.
Services for Mr. John Clyde Winn, Jr. will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Sacred Heart Church in Anniston, AL. Visitation will be held from 11:00am-12:00pm; funeral mass from 12:00pm-1:00pm with food & beverages for family & friends immediately following the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in John Winn's name to the Building Fund for Sacred Heart Church in Anniston, AL.
