Joan Irene Mills' Obituary
Joan Irene Mills, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 27th, 2026, at the age of 73.
Born on May 26, 1952, in Lewiston, Maine, she was the daughter of Jean and Annie Huard. She built a life centered on love, family, and quiet strength. To those who knew her, she was known for her kindness, sense of humor, generosity, and faith.
She was deeply devoted to her family and took great joy in raising her children and being a grandmother and great grandmother.
She also enjoyed bird watching and collecting lighthouses.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Willard “Bill” Mills Jr., her daughters Sue Cambron (Billy) and Penny Cater (Craig), her brother Richard Huard, her grandchildren Joseph Ferguson Jr., Samantha Ellis (Becca), Derek Sewell (Miranda), and Cade Cater (Cheslyn), her great grandchildren Ava Sewell, Cohen Cater, and Adilyn Hollis, and several nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister.
A memorial service will be held on February 1, 2026, at 3pm at the Chapel at the Cremation Services of East Alabama with visitation being one hour prior to the service.
Her love, wisdom, and gentle presence will remain in our hearts forever.
