James Edward Sparks' Obituary
James Edward "Pops" Sparks, age 80, passed away on April 17, 2025, in Lincoln, Alabama. Born on February 21, 1945, in Anniston, Alabama, James spent his entire life in the community he loved and served.
A proud graduate of Wellborn High School's Class of 1963, James built a life rooted in hard work and dedication. For over four decades, he owned and operated his own mechanic business in Anniston. His hands were rarely still-whether turning wrenches under the hood of a car or offering help to someone in need. His shop became more than just a place of work; it was a cornerstone of the neighborhood and a testament to his commitment to honest labor and craftsmanship.
James had a deep passion for working on cars and deer hunting. These weren't just hobbies-they were lifelong pursuits that brought him joy and connection with others who shared his interests. Whether tracking game through the woods or fine-tuning an engine, James found peace and purpose in these moments.
He was affectionately known as "Pops," a name that reflected the warmth and familiarity he brought into the lives of those around him. His legacy continues through his family: daughter Marsha Pope (Steve), son Paul Sparks (Sherry), sister Claudette Anderson (Jimmy), grandsons Dillan Pope (Meghan), Nicholas Pope (Callie), Will Sparks, and Korey Sparks; and great-granddaughters Allison Pope, Payton Sparks, Eveie Sparks, and Ashlyn Sparks.
James was preceded in death by his mother Marvell Maurine Cole Sparks, father James Leroy Sparks, and brothers Floyd Sparks and Mack Sparks.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a lasting reminder of a life well lived.
