James Neal "Pop" Johnson's Obituary
Graveside services for James Neal "Pop" Johnson, 74, of Oxford will be Tuesday, May 6th 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Oxford Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Neal Passed away April 30, 2025 at Anniston RMC.
Neal was preceded in death by his parents, James and Wynell Johnson; two sisters, Paige Johnson Snider and Gail Johnson; and his twin grandsons, Berkley Knox and Jaxon Chase Corbett.
Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Matt Johnson, Jamie Johnson, and Ty Johnson (Ginger); his grandchildren, Grey, Anna, Reid, Max, Emory, and Hudson; a sister, Susan Johnson Webb; and his cousin Danny Eugene O'Kelley, with whom he shared a bond that was one of a kind.
Neal was born October 26, 1950 in Anniston, Alabama. He is a member of the 1969 graduating class of Wellborn High School. From there, Neal went on to serve in the United States Air Force, stationed at MacDill AFB in Tampa, Florida.
After Neal's service, he was employed with civil service at Fort McClellan for 30 years before retiring. However, retirement didn't suit him, and he then was employed by Oxford Water Works for 17 more years. During those years at the water department he made some very close friends.
Neal's hobbies included anything that his grandchildren were involved in. You could find him at any of their events, especially sporting events. He was also an avid Atlanta Braves and Auburn Football fan.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Children's Hospital, 1600 7th Ave South in Birmingham.
