I met Greg in 1996 on a cruise. I sat next to him at the bar and became a dear friend immediately. I noticed that he kept his distance at first and knew he was sizing me up. Once he realized I was just an old country boy from South Louisiana I think I passed the test. I really and truly loved Greg. He took me hunting down in Auburn a couple of times, he took me to shoot sporting clays, let me and a few friends stay in his camper when we went to Talledega and had me over just for a visit after my divorce and raised my spirits. I cooked a gumbo for him and he wanted to try and learn how to say Roux. Gumbo base… I got the name coonass because he hardly could make out what I was saying when I talked. And he had my name right because that’s what I am. I always wished I lived closer to him so I could visit more frequently. almost met up right when he became ill and we just couldn’t get together. I’m going through there next week and was trying to reach him that maybe his health was better. Most recent phone call to him he could barely talk. That made me so sad. Then I find out Saturday that he passed away the night before. This makes me so sad that I didn’t get to see him before his passing but, Rest Easy buddy from your buddy Mark Louviere who started out as coonass to being promoted to buddy. That’s what he called me in our last conversation and said I Love You and I’m glad I got to tell him I Love Him and I surely always will. RIP BUDDY!!!
