Gary Wayne Key's Obituary
Gary Wayne Key left his earthly home peacefully on May 21, 2023, at 74 years old. Family and friend visitation will be held on May 27th from 2:00-3:00, and a celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 at Golden Springs Baptist Church Reception Hall.
Gary attended Saks High School and resided in Anniston for his entire life. He made his living, ministered to others through his kind spirit and generosity, and made lifelong friends as an autobody repairman and owner of Brooks Body Shop. He never met a stranger and told stories that kept everyone laughing. He was a member and served as president of the Alabama Street Rod Association, where he participated in car shows with the street rods he built by hand. Gary was talented at working with his hands but also exhibited Christ’s love by helping others through his work.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Stamps Key, of Alexandria; two stepchildren, Chrissie Thomas Lott (Dean) of Oxford and John Thomas of Alexandria; two brothers, Jimmy Key and Robert Key; and three grandchildren, Erin Lott, Emily Lott, and Gavin Lott.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Doris Shaddix and Wallace Key, and brothers, Charlie Key and Ricky Key.
His family would like to thank the Alabama Cancer Care of Anniston staff and his chemotherapy nurse at RMC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
