Edward Lansing Smith's Obituary
It is with the heaviest heart that I share that my father, my “Purr”, passed away peacefully late Friday night March 20, 2026 at the age of 89, with me, his “Little Purr”, by his side holding his hand.
He was the most kind, gentle, wise, strong, and honorable southern gentleman who lived a quiet life, loved his family deeply, and missed the love of his life, Liz, every day since she has been gone.
He preferred a private life and specifically requested that there be no formal obituary and no public service, and we are honoring his wishes.
He used to say my mom’s service was big enough for both of them. I am so grateful for the love he so freely gave me and guidance he shared, being my confidant in all of my life’s decisions.
He was the kind of man every generation should strive to be, being the example for so many.
He was deeply loved by his surviving family, including his daughter, Jennifer Roberts and her husband, Brian, grandsons Zac, Hunter (Glenna), Chase, and Gabe, great-granddaughter Etta, his sister Jane, his brother Phil (Louanne), and many other special close and extended family and friends.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out, prayed for us, loved him over all the years, and loved me. I was very blessed to be his daughter.
