Danny Lamar Gooden's Obituary
Danny Lamar Gooden, age 74, passed away peacefully at his home in Oxford on May 14th, 2026.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Jan Gooden, his sister Jimmielou (Don) Kaley, son Chris Gooden, granddaughters Kaeleigh (Austin), and Braelyn (Preston), one great granddaughter, Zoe Cryer, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents James and Lu Gooden.
Danny’s life was rooted in simple things that carried great meaning: the love of family, the satisfaction of honest work, the comfort of old westerns, and the friendships he built with neighbors and friends throughout the years. He never met many strangers, and his presence had a way of making people feel welcome, seen, and cared for.
Whether it was repairing something, lending a helping hand, or cutting grass for someone who could no longer do it themselves, Danny served others without seeking recognition. That kindness became part of the legacy he leaves behind.
Danny dedicated many years of hard work to Ranger Transportation, where he worked as a diesel mechanic until retiring in 2016. He took pride in his work and in providing for the people he loved. Skilled with his hands and dependable in every season of life, he was the kind of man others could count on without hesitation.
Above all else, Danny cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud “Pops.” The love he gave was steady, selfless, and deeply felt by those fortunate enough to receive it. His family will remember not only the things he did, but the way he made them feel safe, supported, and endlessly loved. His presence was a gift, and the mark he leaves on the hearts of those who loved him will remain for generations to come.
