Billy passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home after a hard-fought battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Edward Burns.
Billy is survived by his wife of 46 years, Brenda Mashburn Burns; sons, Corey Joseph Burns and his wife Billie Jo who he considered as a daughter, and Cody Mashburn Burns; grandchildren, Bailey Elizabeth Burns, Emma Grace Burns, Olivia Faith Burns and Sophia Kate Burns; mother, Mary Alice Warmack Burns; brother, Bobby Burns (Gail); sisters, Bonita Burns and Jane Abbott; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Billy was born on August 26, 1956, in Anniston, Alabama, to Joseph Edward and Mary Alice Warmack Burns. Throughout his childhood, he attended Hokes Bluff School, Frances E. Willard School, Piedmont High School, and graduated from White Plains High School in 1976. He retired from Flint Ink (formerly Mead Ink) after 30+ years, where he was affectionately known as “BillyBob”. He loved to tell stories and to make people laugh. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His greatest joy was getting to spend time with his granddaughters, especially during his time as “PawPaw’s Daycare”. The world only made one BillyBob, and we will miss him dearly.
Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to Scottsboro First United Methodist Church Youth and Children’s Ministry, 1105 S. Broad Street, Scottsboro, Alabama 35768.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Christy, Tammy, Maddie and the entire staff at Gentiva Hospice as well as the staff at Cremation Services of East Alabama.
