Amy Kaye Roberson Batchelor's Obituary
After a brave battle, our beloved Kaye Roberson Batchelor went to be with our Lord on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the age of 73.
Born on December 22, 1951, in Anniston, Alabama, to Virgil Roberson and Sara Ruth Sims, Kaye was a proud graduate of the Anniston High School Class of 1970 and recipient of a B.S.Ed. from Jacksonville State University.
For years after graduating high school, she helped coordinate her tight-knit, classmate reunions—both large and small—many friendships spanning over 60 years. She was a lifelong advocate for and active participant in building community, literacy, the outdoors, volunteerism, fashion, and creating beautiful, safe spaces through her love of gardening and interior design. She competently applied this green thumb and nesting qualities to flourish with booths she maintained at local vendor malls and her employers over the years: Wakefield’s, Berman’s on Noble, Dillard's, and Houston Cole Library at JSU, where she was awarded Employee of the Month by Dr. Bill Meehan, honoring her congenial spirit and dedication to coordinating rotating educational and celebratory themes for a prominent glass display case in the entry foyer of the university library for over five years.
Her other volunteerism includes Mom’s Day Out; Anniston Soup Bowl; visiting seniors and those with health challenges; and chaperoning her children on their activities and school field trips to include sports, band, gymnastics, Boston, Amish communities of Lancaster County, PA, and New York City, where her camera bag was stolen from the restaurant at the top of one of the World Trade Center buildings.
Her laughter, zeal for life, and embracing each moment with grace and kindness, will be sorely missed. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, William (Bill) R. Batchelor, her brother Joseph “Joey” Roberson (Pat); her children, Keri and Marty Driggers, Bobby Batchelor, Sharon Key, Karen Shumate (Heath), and Michael Batchelor (Beth); many nieces and nephews; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Roberson and Sara Ruth Sims, her brother Danny Roberson and her sister Sue Roberson Carroll.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 9th, from noon until 1 p.m., at Golden Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Roland Brown officiating. Visitation and refreshments for family and friends will be onsite afterward from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.
