Joe B. Foster

Joe B. Foster went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 16, 2024. A memorial service will be held at Oak Bowery Baptist Church on Saturday April 20th, 2024 at 1PM. Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service. He is survived by his wife, Judy Shaffer Lambright Foster of Ohatchee; son David (Danielle) Foster of Kitty Hawk, NC, step-daughter Kris (Gene) Fisher of Oxford; Step-daughter-in-law Kendra Lambright of Ohatchee; eleven grandchildren, Brittany Foster (Sean) Crampsie, Francis Foster, Lexy Brown, Colin Foster., Brandon Fisher, Megan Fisher, Jacob fisher, Devyn Lambright (Ethan) Knight, Tristn Lambright (Nick) Bonds, Ryker (Gracee) Lambright, Kylar Lambright,: and five great-grandchildren, Addie Fisher, Ben Fisher, Charlie, and Carter; also his sister Jean Simmons. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas David Foster Jr. and Winnie Dell Brown Foster, and his step-son Ty Lambright; also a brother Jim (Judy) Foster; and a brother-in-law Wayne Simmons. Joe was born near Leeds, Alabama on October 6, 1940. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and from Georgia State University with a M.B.A. degree. He served in the Chemical Corps from 1963 to 1985 and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. he served two tours in Vietnam and one in Korea, plus assignments at various U.S. posts. He retired as Deputy Assistant commandant of the Chemical School at Ft. McClellan. He was awarded four Bronze Star Medals, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal for Valor, Combat Infantry Badge, and several service decorations. After his retirement, he worked as a military analysist for several contractors for the US Army Chemical School from 1988 to 1999. Joe and his family moved to Ohatchee in 1985. He served as chairman of the Ohatchee Library Board and worked at the Ohatchee Polling place. he was a member of Oak Bowery Baptist Church, where he was the church clerk, historian, and teacher, and served on several church committees. He enjoyed gardening, researching family histories, and watching Alabama football. In Leu of flowers, the family requests donations to Oak Bowery Baptist Church.
